Craig Boddington's African Experience

Craig Boddington is back in his follow up to Boddington on Leopard and Boddington on Buffalo. African Experience was produced to provide the highlights of Boddington’s book of the same title on DVD. For the hunter who would rather educate himself before his safari by watching and listening rather than reading, this is an excellent African hunting video. The DVD is three hours long in a two DVD set. Boddington begins by discussing the safaris of yesteryear in East Africa. He continues by discussing the countries open to hunting today and a little about the type of hunting and animals available.

Boddington then discusses guns and loads for Africa, with a detailed descriptions of his favorite two gun battery and why. With over 65 safaris under his belt, it is hard to argue with Craig’s experience. He goes into detail on the categories of species such as the Big 5/6, the Spiral Horned Antelope, the Glamourous Game, the Common Game and the tiny antelope. He discusses clothing, packing for Africa, costs of safari, tipping, and much more.

The DVD is not as informative as Boddington’s book, African Experience, but it would be tough to fit that much information on a hunting video. As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words, and this is true to many who can’t relax with a book in hand. It’s interesting to see Africa and its wildlife and you will come away with a much higher understanding of the African continent. My only complaint about this video is several of the sequences of Boddington as he feeds you information could have been filmed in higher quality, but overall this has no bearing on the information provided in the video. The highlights for me were the information on which African countries hold the highest quality of certain species and the seeing numerous animals in their habitat.
