Jim Shockey's Hunting Adventures IX
This hunting video starts off with a father and son hunt in Africa. Jim Shockey’s father, at the age of 76, makes his first trip to Africa for a Plains Game Hunt in Namibia. After some trials and tribulations, Jim’s father is successful in taking his first African animal, a red hartebeest.
With one animal under his belt, Jim’s father then proceeds to take a kudu, a gemsbok and eventually a springbok all while wearing a blue, plaid, wool, lumberjack’s shirt. Apparently Shockey couldn’t splurge for any camo for his father. Shockey’s father is known through previous videos for his excellent shot placement and while hunting springbok he finally misses. After the miss, he stares at his rifle as if it let him down. He eventually kills a different springbok later in the hunt and redeems himself. The dry humor and bantering is typical of Jim and his father, as well as the obvious respect Shockey has for his dad.
The hunting video then moves north to Canada, where a hunter takes a 58” bull moose with archery equipment. These old bulls are monstrous in the Yukon and this bull is no exception and with a stick and string for excitement. Old Mexico is the third stop with Shockey and his son, who kills his first Coues Deer and adds a Mexican puma during the same day. Jim nearly ruins the opportunity while trying to get some footage of the large cat. This is a dry ground puma hunt with dogs and is an exciting chase. John Nosler of Nosler bullets then takes two large black bears on Shockey’s concession on Vancouver Island with some excellent shooting.
Next it’s off to Saskatchewan to hunt Giant Whitetail with Jim’s guides and they take two heavy old bruiser whitetails. The video closes with a Cape Buffalo Hunt in Tanzania, with a charge after the initial shot and the buffalo falling within reach of the hunters. Jim’s video production seems to improve with each video and this is no exception. If you like a wide variety of species Jim Shockey’s videos have a little of everything.
